REMEMBER ME

Transnational Access

Provides access to major microscopy centres (Antwerp, Cambridge, Delft, Dresden, Orsay, Oxford, Stuttgart, Toulouse) together with their expertise to scientists from member states or associated states. ( TA )
The transnational access activities are set up to ensure that researchers from all over Europe have access to the best available infrastructure that is required to perform their research on an equal basis. The infrastructure offered within the project is the best available not only in Europe but also compared to the rest of the world. Each partner involved is able to provide leading scientific, technical and logistic support to new users

How to apply for Access?

To be eligible to benefit from access to the infrastructure under the contract, a user must satisfy the following 2 conditions:
  • The user group must come from Member states or Associated states.
  • The user and user group must come from a country other than the country where the legal entity, operating the infrastructure is established.

Interested users should fill out the Request for Transnational Access.
Incoming proposals will be examined for formal compliance with the EU regulations, and then forwarded to the Users Selection Panel (USP) of ESTEEM. The Users Selection Panel will then make a final decision, taking into account the following guidelines:
  • Selection will be done on the basis of scientific merit taking into account the interest of the Community.
  • Priority will be given to User Groups who have not previously used the infrastructure and who would not normally have access to it.
  • Selection will also take into account that the contract is intended to finance primarily short visits to the infrastructure.
The proposal is then returned to the infrastructure Director, who will notify the applicant of the decision of the Users Selection Panel and will take further action. In case the proposal is accepted the host institution will instruct the applicant about the further procedure.

DO NOT FORGET:
  • Acknowledge the host institution and the European Community in all publications (annual reports, papers etc.) involving activities at ESTEEM if a reimbursement under Contract no 026019 has been granted.
  • Please fill out the User group questionnaire according to the following prescription: The Contract Number to be indicated in field (1) is no 026019.

Following these rules will help you and us to keep the support by the EU Commission also available in the future. We wish you a successful stay at the ESTEEM lab.

The EMAT research group of the University of Antwerp has special experience in HREM, both experimental and theoretical, EELS and application of TEM to nanotechnological problems. Within the group there is a strong collaboration with solid state physicists for theoretical support. The necessary hardware and software for image interpretation and image processing are present. A supercluster of 256 dual Opteron processors can be used to support the interpretations. EMAT offers access to the following transmission electron microscopes:
  • High resolution instruments JEOL-3000F, JEOL 4000EX and Philips CM30
  • Analytical microscope Philips CM20
  • High voltage microscope JEOL 1250
  • A FIB instrument mainly dedicated to complex sample preparation

TA2: Access to UPSTEM at Orsay

Activity Leader
Prof. Dr. Christian Colliex
Université Paris Sud
Laboratoire de Physique des solides

The Microscopy group has accumulated particular expertise in
  • Imaging and analysis in scanning transmission electron microscopy
  • Electron energy loss spectroscopy
  • Spatially resolved EELS in the Spectrum Imaging (SPIM) mode

The laboratory will provide access to the UPS-TEM lab which is composed of the following instruments:
  • SPIM-STEM: a dedicated STEM operating at 100 kV with a spacia resolution of 0.5 nm
  • SPIM-ultraSTEM: a novel dedicated STEM (presently under construction) with a 0.1 nm resolution and an energy resolution below 0.2 eV
  • SPIM-COMP: a dedicated computer support providing tools for data processing
